A good ad does more than just grab attention; it brings a smile to your face and often makes you think. This fortnight, we have been blessed with quite a few ads that did just that. Since Mother’s Day falls in May, we got to see some impactful ads that made us miss Mom. Some created the right dialogues even at the cost of getting trolled online. This fortnight belongs to brands like Zomato, Catch Spices, Starbucks and others who wowed us with their bold and creative spots. In this fortnightly round-up of best ads, we have listed some of our favourite campaigns between May 1 and May 15 alphabetically.
Bandhan Bank
No matter how old you get, you will always be a child for your mom. Bandhan Bank’s Mother’s Day TVC celebrates this endearing fact about mother-child relationships by showcasing what not-so-young “children” love the most about their moms. The film’s concept was co-created by Bandhan Bank’s Marketing team and Leo Burnett Orchard.
Catch Spices
Motherhood can look different to different people. Catch Spices shined a spotlight on what it can look like for sex workers who often have to give up on motherhood due to the nature of their jobs. This Mother’s Day ad by the brand showcased how a sex worker longs for her daughter who is in an orphanage and the only way to communicate is through food. The campaign was conceptualised by Grapes and produced by The Titus Upputuru Company.
Duroflex
Mattress plays a key role in the quality of sleep. Sleep solutions company Duroflex made an offer that consumers can’t refuse. The ad is centred on a man auctioning off his used mattress by using poetry to appeal to potential buyers. But despite his attempts to romanticise what is essentially a ratty-old mattress, to nobody’s surprise, he finds no takers. The humourous ad then makes a case for Duroflex’s “Mattress Exchange” programme where, as the name suggests, consumers can buy a new one by exchanging their old one.
Spyk

Hard seltzer brand Spyk brought together an unlikely duo who have nothing in common at the outset – Rohan Joshi and The Great Khali. Yet, the two made it work with a hilariously quirky campaign for their brewed seltzers with 5.5% alcohol. Says the brand, “This amalgamation of bold & tough combined with another fun and bubbly personality thoughtfully indicates towards the characteristics of a hard seltzer.” The four-film campaign showcases the comedian and the wrestler tackle everyday situations with a bizarre and fun twist. The films were created in collaboration with the brand’s creative agencies - Django Digital and Schbang.
Zomato
Zomato, the veritable king of quirky campaigns, paid the ultimate tribute to motherhood by tweaking the app interface. For starters, the name was changed to “Mazoto” because “maa always comes first.” The app’s interface was also tweaked with puns and jokes on motherhood as an ode to moms all around the world.
