Day one of the International Advertising Festival at Cannes has good news for Indian agencies, who have got 57 shortlists in all. Adding to the joy is the news that JWT Chennai has bagged a Promo Lion in the first edition. The first set of shortlists was announced on June 19, 2006. O&M and McCann lead the Indian charge with 10 shortlists each, while Madison has emerged as the top Indian contender in the Media Lions shortlist.

Initiative Media's ViewerTrack has compiled data to suggest that the opening match for the FIFA World Cup '06 between Germany and Costa Rica drew on average nine lakh Indian TV viewers. The first half had 10 lakh tuning in, while the second half had eight lakh.

The Delhi High Court has granted a stay to ESPN-STAR Sports in favour of its application for a civil suit filed against 92 cable operators across the country for unauthorised broadcast of the FIFA World Cup, restraining all the cable operators from showing the matches through any channel other than ESPN-STAR Sports.
