The 7th M.AD Quiz, organised by the Advertising Club of Bombay on December 18, saw a dramatic end with Sun Microsystems emerging victorious. It is for the first time since the quiz show was initiated that a client participant won against media and advertising agencies. Sun Microsystems won with 17 points, followed by Leo Burnett, Bates, JWT and IMRB at second, third, fourth and fifth places, respectively.

The year-end has brought some good news for Zee Bangla. The channel, which till some time back had occupied the second position, has now raced ahead of ETV Bangla in the Bengali general entertainment channel space to take the top spot. ETV Bangla is now in the second position, followed by Aakaash Bangla.

The Association of Indian Magazines (AIM) recently met in Mumbai to discuss various issues pertaining to the magazine business in India. It is for the first time that AIM organised such an industry meet in Mumbai. AIM members decided to form a committee for readership issues, and have also unveiled plans to appoint a senior level bureaucrat for co-coordinating ministerial activities for non-Delhi based publications.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd has appointed V Chandrasekaar Barathi (Chandru) as Business Head of Zee Tamil. The Tamil language channel is expected to go on air in April 2008. Chandru would be based in Chennai and would be responsible for launching the channel. A senior source from the Zee Group confirmed the development.

Network18 and Jagran Prakashan Ltd have announced a 50:50 joint venture initiative in the business print space. The primary mandate of this JV is to launch a Hindi business daily in 2008. Subsequently, this would be followed by other Indian language dailies focussed on financial and economic news.
