They came, they presented their case studies, and they walked away with the most Awards. The winners at the Effie Awards 2006 are understandably ecstatic. The Effies look beyond just brilliant creatives and judges the entries on effectiveness, merit and a whole host of attributes. exchange4media caught up with some winners to get their views.

Lowe not only emerged as the Agency of the Year, but also won the coveted Grand Effie, the Best of Gold Awards, and the People’s Choice Award for the Best Case Study presentation.

Speaking on the win, R Balakrishnan, National Creative Head, Lowe India, said, “We feel exactly the way we felt before the Awards. But, it’s a very nice feeling to win these many awards.” Talking about the agency’s non-participation in any other awards, he said, “I don’t think any award is that important. But, it felt good winning the Effies.”

Lowe bagged 10 Awards, including one Gold, five Silvers, three Bronzes and the Grand Effie for Lifebuoy (Little Gandhi). McCann had won the Grand Effie last year for Saffola Gold (Dil Ki Hifaazat Aaj Se). Lowe also had the highest number of case study presentations for the Awards with eight case studies, out of the 19 shortlisted.

Commenting on winning the Yahoo! Big Idea Chair for their work on State Bank of India (Surprisingly SBI), Rensil D’Silva, Senior Creative Director, O&M, said, “We are very ecstatic about the win. The company had always believed in showing numbers to the clients, and we have achieved it with this campaign. The campaign, which had immense exposure through all mediums, was a great success for us as well as the client.” The agency had bagged the coveted Awards last year too.

Sagar Mahabaleshwarkar, Creative Director, O&M, was, however, not very happy with O&M’s Awards tally. The agency bagged total six Awards – two Golds, three Silvers and one Bronze. He said, “All the 10-minute presentations were fantastic and it’s lovely to see such competition. We will come back next year stronger and on a good day, we will win it back.”

The other winners of the evening were McCann Erickson and FCB Ulka, who took home one Silver each.
