Sir Martin Sorrell keeps his promise to Jack Dorsey, joins Twitter
The WPP CEO and Founder posted for the first time on Wednesday, September 13
Sir Martin Sorrell “finally succumbed” to the social media bug as he joined Twitter on Wednesday. In 2016, Sorrell, the founder and CEO of WPP, in a Skype interview with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey at Dmexco promised that he would sign up on the micro blogging site if Dorsey actually turned up in person for the 2017 edition of Dmexco.
He kept his promise and posted his first tweet on Wednesday. Although Sorrell tweeted for the first time after his interview with Dorsey, the @martinsorrell account was created way back in February 2009. According to a media report, Dorsey was to join Sorrell on stage in Cologne, but pulled out for unknown reasons, instead conducting the interview on Skype. "There are CEOs who use Twitter, I don't. We can remedy that. If you promise to come to Dmexco live next year, I will go on Twitter," the WPP CEO said.
As Dorsey left the stage on Wednesday he said to the crowd: "Follow this account". At the time of filing this report, Sorrell’s account had 1,946 followers, and one tweet.
